Maybe I'll be a pirate.

I don't have a proper Halloween costume, but I do have a hand-knit eyepatch that I made for a House Cup assignment. I think I'll wear it tomorrow.

I wore it for a bit when I went to see Grandma at the nursing home today. We went downstairs for their Halloween happy hour, and I drank 'Pumpkin Guts' (a non-alcoholic peach drink) and snacked on cheese puffs.

I went to the periodontist's yesterday, because he has me coming in to get my teeth cleaned between my usual cleanings at the family dentist's since my dead tooth was removed. The hygienist told me to remember to floss, and we had a small conversation about Lady Gaga's meat dress and George Michael. It was interesting. I couldn't really say much in reply, considering that I was having my teeth scraped with metal instruments, but it was still interesting.

So tomorrow I'm going to the local NaNoWriMo kick-off party, and I think I'll wear my eyepatch. It shall be rockin' :) I'll probably post some Halloween videos tomorrow.

'Cause I'm bored

I haven't posted in a while. So I'll post now.

I went to see Grandma yesterday afternoon. I put together an outfit that I'm very proud of: army green shorts, white tank top, and a red bandanna worn like a headband with my hair pulled back in a ponytail. I felt very tough. I was going to wear my blue sandals, but I didn't want my feet to start aching, so I wore my beat-up black sport sandals instead.

I went to the library afterwards to take back a knitting book (Handmade Underground Knitwear) and a Bruce Springsteen CD, and picked up Crazy Heart. I watched it last night, and it was pretty good.

I watched Toronto FC's match against Kansas City, and the reffing was TERRIBLE. The ref red-carded Nick Garcia for a complete accident, and when Chad Barrett got kicked in the face, the ref didn't even card the Kansas City player - all we got was a free kick! It was ridiculous.

I re-watched the pilot of Ashes to Ashes today. It was on Showcase either Wednesday or Thursday, and Dad recorded it yesterday. I hadn't seen it right from the beginning since I watched it on YouTube (the clips got removed right after I had watched them), so I wanted to refresh my memory. I'll have to catch the rest of the series either on Saturdays or earlier in the week.

I went to a cat show.

So today I went to a cat show at the new fairground buildings. Well, sorta fairground. It's more like fancy buildings than actual fairgrounds. On the old fairgrounds they're building houses and such.

After that we went to see Grandma. Someone told her that there was a happy hour (with non-alcoholic drinks, of course), so we went downstairs to that. A guy was playing songs on a piano and then they put on some oldies music on a little CD player, and then the guy started playing the piano again. One of the songs he played was 'Tipperary', and I told my mom, "Every time I hear that song, I think of ketchup!", because of the old Heinz commercial with the huge bottle of ketchup and the circle of fries and hot dogs and burgers. lol.

Then we went to No Frills to get some groceries, including more ice cream, some Nestle Drumsticks, and ice cream toppings - dark chocolate sauce, butterscotch sauce and peanuts. So I'm pretty stoked about that.

I'm kinda stressed out, so I'm going to start some dishcloths and watch season two of Pushing Daisies from the library. I'm going to use an on-the-bias garter stitch eyelet pattern, because it's different, but simple enough for DVD-watching. I'm gonna print the pattern off today (I have a similar pattern on a Bernat Handicrafter Cotton ballband, but I'd rather print off the pattern because the ballband is easier to lose), as well as a scarf pattern.

Mac n' cheese wedges are my vice

We had chicken wings for dinner from the wings place close to our street. We used to order from another place nearby that was owned by the same people that owned the fish and chips place next-door (next-door from Place We Used To Order From, in case you're confuzzled), but then they started cheaping out on the fish, so we went back to ordering from the place we ordered from tonight.

Confused yet? ;)

Anyway, the place we order from has mac n' cheese wedges, and they are to die for. We ordered a large order of the mac n' cheese wedges, and I got a pound of medium-heat wings. I usually get honey garlic, but I felt like a change. Mom got a pound of Dry Cajun wings that are really good. I don't know what Dad got, but they looked like honey garlic.

So, my sister's here until tomorrow, because she wanted to meet up with school friends tonight (I think she's still out to dinner with them). Not long after she got in, me, Mom and Katie (my sister) went down to the nursing home that Grandma just moved into. It's a nice place, and the staff are really friendly.

Mom said earlier about going to the library tomorrow to pick stuff up. So I might be doing that. I was hoping to wait, because two of my CDs are due on the 3rd of February, and I didn't want to take two trips... but I guess I can just keep them out. Besides, I may have something come in before the 3rd.

Good news!

1. My mom and I aren't arguing now.

2. The library checked in Heroes, and they're not charging me a fine.

3. Grandma has a place in a nursing home now!!!!!

So yeah... pretty happy about that. What's really great is that me and Mom can take the bus to the nursing home Grandma's going to be in when my dad's working.

Christmas Wrap-up

This holiday season has been interesting. I'll start with Christmas Eve.

Christmas Eve

I woke up at 7:00 AM to the ringing of my alarm clock. I set it for 7 so that I could shower before me and Dad went to get the cannoli for Christmas Day breakfast. When we got to the bakery, it was around 9:00, and they didn't open until 9:30, so we had to attempt other errands for the half hour. I say 'attempt' because we weren't successful. We stopped at Winners to look for an ornament for Mom, but they weren't open, so we tried Shoppers Drug Mart because Dad wanted to get Mom a Terry's Chocolate Orange for her stocking, but they were cleaned out of the milk chocolate and white chocolate ones. We didn't get her a dark chocolate one because she isn't keen on dark chocolate unless it's mild dark chocolate.

Now that I think about it, we should've seen if the Dutch imports shop in the little shopping mall was still open for business, because they carry a different brand of the chocolate oranges. That mall's being demolished, though, because a SmartCentre is going in.

We did some last-minute cleaning, and then after we had our Harvey's hamburgers I put on It's a Wonderful Life. Katie and Dan got in at around 9:30 PM, and me and Dad helped them haul stuff out of the trunk of Katie's car (she bought a used Toyota recently) because not only did she have her gifts to us, but she also had Dan's family's gifts to him and Katie.

Christmas Day

I can't remember when I eventually got out of bed. I just remember not wanting to get up. I felt kinda sad that morning. Lately I've been feeling sad about holidays. I guess that's why I listen to so many Christmas songs and watch so many Christmas movies - because I'm trying to distract myself from the future and cheer myself up.

It wound up being a great Christmas morning. We ate out cannoli first - Dan gave me the other mini Yule Log, which was nice of him. Normally I think we would open presents first and then eat, so it felt a little odd. And then Katie was like, "Dan, finish your cannoli so that I can give you your stocking!" It was cute. And we put on Bell TV's Yule Log channel, but we muted it so that we could put the stereo on and listen to the CBC.

So, in my stocking, I got:

A bag of red licorice allsorts (because I'm not crazy about black licorice much)
Two Sherbet Fountains
Three little bags of British candy - one of Jelly Babies (which I ate this afternoon), one of Bursting Bottles, and one of Fruit Gems (?)
Two trios of nail polish
A pouch of lip balms
A bottle of anti-frizz hair serum
Two pairs of tights
A nail buffer
A marzipan pig
A bag of coconut truffles (I ate a few)
A bag of toffees
Mini bottles of shampoo and conditioner

From Katie and Dan, I got:

A Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll
Bookends
A CD holder that matches the bookends
Leonard Cohen's first CD

From my parents, I got:

16" circular needles
Woolwash
A pink Namaste bag!!!!
Fleecy pajamas
A fleecy houndstooth-print robe
A sleep shirt
The soundtrack from Juno
Bob Dylan's Christmas album
A self-healing rotary cutting mat
A rotary cutter

After we finished unwrapping gifts, Katie and Dan drove down to Nathan's place to pick up him and Steph (I've been calling them Kurt and Courtney ;p). Nathan actually like the hamburger patty press thing I gave him, because he makes burgers a lot, from what he told us. He and Steph gave me a white shortie fleece robe with skulls on it in different colours - kinda pop art-y. I like it.

I freaked out when I was getting ready to go to Grandma and Grandpa's, because I couldn't fit into my pantyhose, and then in a fit of rage I whacked my heel on the underside of my bed and it started bleeding, so Katie came down to see if I was okay, and then got some peroxide and a bandage for my heel and helped me with my clothes. I wound up wearing my black eyelet kneesocks instead of pantyhose, because kneesocks are idiot-proof and look flattering.

I went with Katie and Dan in their car to Grandma and Grandpa's place, and Dad took the food first and then picked Mom up from the house. When I got there, Patti's friend Lorraine was there, talking to Grandma (thankfully, she didn't stay for dinner - probably because Patti wasn't there). Me and Grandma talked a little bit, and then Uncle Brent, Justin and Breanne arrived. Not long after that, Mom arrived. And then Grandma asked us to change the tablecloth on the table in the living room because Grandpa had put down a beige-coloured one with grapes on it, and she preferred the solid white tablecloth. It was funny.

Once everybody was sitting in the living room, Grandpa started handing out gifts. I got two books off my list (Terrier by Tamora Pierce and Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr), a clock radio (which I didn't think I needed, because I have my wind-up alarm clock, but I like it and will probably use it) and a hoodie from Aeropostale. Grandpa even asked me to try it on to make sure it fitted okay, and it did. Breanne and Justin got Aeropostale stuff, too. At first, Breanne told Grandpa that her stuff wouldn't fit, but she tried it on and it fit well. She really liked the green and purple shirt she got. Katie, Uncle Brent and Mom all got these Magic Bullet blenders, Dan got a Transformers DVD, and Dad got a bottle of Jack Daniel's and a case of Dr Pepper - which was really funny, because it's Dad's new favourite drink, and he keeps telling people about it. Justin got a book off his list also, and Katie got the Wilton cake decorating course kit she asked for. She's pretty happy about that kit :)

Dinner wasn't as pleasant. I was at the table in the living room with Katie, Dan, Breanne and Uncle Brent. Brent was being a complete ass, bitching at Breanne about irrelevant things. He wanted her to put on her button-down shirt that she had with her, even though it was roasting in the living room (it got so warm that Grandpa asked people to open the front door for a few minutes). And he even had the nerve to tell her, "Go to your mother's." Now, Breanne was being a little bit of a madam, but she would be keeping to herself and eating dinner and Brent would pick fights with her. It pissed me off immensely. If I wasn't trapped between Dan and the Christmas tree, I would've left the table, I was that mad.

Dessert was a little more civil. I ate my trifle like a jackhammer, though, because I was so mad at Brent, and when I went to grab some cookies and squares from the platter, I sat at the kitchen table with Mom, Grandma, Grandpa and Jack instead. After dessert, we hung around while Brent, Breanne and Justin were leaving (Brent forgot his laundry and hair gel from when he used Grandma and Grandpa's shower 'cause his cistern was empty at home, and he was supposed to take the raw veggies and dip with him, but forgot that too, so Katie grabbed it all and put it in her car).

Boxing Day

I ate a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast. As usual, after I eat, somebody offers to pick up take-out. In this case, it was Katie offering to pick up breakfast from McDonald's. She asked me if I wanted anything, though, which was nice, so I asked for hotcakes. She asked me if I wanted a hashbrown patty, too, so I said yes. I like McDonald's hotcakes. There was no butter in the bag, but that was fine. I just ate them plain.

Katie picked up Nathan at around 1:00. Steph didn't come because she wasn't feeling well, apparently - I'll believe it when I see it. Hey, I wonder if she was... never mind. Not gonna say it. Bad, bad taste.

Anyway. I put on jeans and my red shirt with 'I'm sorry. My fault. I forgot you were an idiot.' printed on it in white. It's another gem from Giant Tiger. I took Blood and Chocolate with me in case I got bored (Mom thought it was rude, but too bad). I managed to read a page, or almost a page, on the way. It was hard to read in the van because it isn't as smooth a ride as the Honda, so my book kept wobbling. It was really soggy outside, but a pretty kind of soggy. The natural light was good for reading, and I wish I'd taken my camera with me 'cause the scenery was really pretty. I saw horses. And cattle. Or maybe they were bulls. I think they were cows, though. But the sky itself was really pretty - very dark and overcast with a little stripe of light on the horizon. It would've been a great shot to use for a book cover for my NaNoWriMo '09 novel.

Brent was on his best behavior. I think it was because Heather (his girlfriend) and her kids were there, and Breanne and Justin were at their mom's. If Breanne had been there, he may have even been civil to her, just because of Heather being there and him wanting to impress her. Yeah, Brent, you're sooo Father of the Year. Pfft.

We had ham, green beans, scalloped potatoes (which were really good), sweet potatoes (which were mediocre in comparison to Mom's sweet potato souffle that she made for Christmas Day dinner. That, and Patti brought them.), lasagna (which was soupy and weird - another Patti contribution) corn, and salad. I think my favourite was the scalloped potatoes. It looked like there was onion in them, which was neat.

Heather's girls are adorable. I met Tegan when we went out for Chinese food, but I hadn't met Jenasee until yesterday. Tegan really likes Katie and Dan. Poor Dan became a set of playground monkey bars! ;P

Today

Mom whacked together a blueberry French toast casserole for breakfast last night and baked it off today. It's pretty good. Katie and Dan went out to do some shopping at various places. I'm not sure if they're home yet. This post has taken me a long time to write because Dad has called me down several times to dry dishes.

I'm drinking ginger ale.

I ate the packet of jelly babies that I got in my stocking.

That is all.

Thanksgiving Day Weekend

Thanksgiving was interesting to say the least. Let's start with Friday...

Friday

We did a bit of cleaning because Katie was arriving in the evening. She came just after Dad left to pick up takeout from the local Italian restaurant, so she had a bit of my fettuccine and a bit of Mom's gnocchi. And she gave me my birthday present - Japanese Inspired Knits! I think she went out to meet with friends after dinner, if I remember correctly.

Saturday

This was pretty much Thanksgiving prep day. Mom baked her pumpkin pies, and then I think she and Katie got started on the potatoes. Or was that Sunday morning? I can't remember.

I went to the library to pick up my stuff, and not long after I came home I went back out with Katie to pick up Justin from the bus station, and then we went to a cafe downtown that sells fair trade stuff. I got a hot chocolate, Katie got coffee, and Justin got coffee and a bowl of soup because he hadn't eaten much.

Then we went back home and Katie and Justin went to visit Grandma while me and Mom watched the soccer game, then Katie and Justin came back and hung out, and then we all got hungry so Dad and Katie went to Wendy's to pick up burgers for Katie and Mom and chicken sandwiches for me and Justin. I accidentally took a bite out of Justin's spicy chicken sandwich, but he didn't mind. I had fries and a chocolate Frosty to go with my chicken sandwich, and Katie got a Frosty - not sure if it was chocolate or vanilla - and fries. I couldn't drink my Frosty with a straw so I chucked it out and got a spoon, haha. Then Uncle Brent came to pick Justin up.

Sunday - family dinner day

The morning was pretty calm. We watched Sunday Morning, then Katie and Mom made the corn casserole that Grandma loves (which Grandpa said he didn't want, and pretty much told Grandma she couldn't have it, but whatever). I think the potatoes were made on this day, but it might've been Saturday. Anyways, I put in Pieces of April, because it's a Thanksgiving movie and it's awesome and me and Katie love it and Mom loves it and yeah. Then Katie went to pick up Nathan and Steph, and I fretted over my hair while Mom showered, and I finished watching Pieces of April, and then I got dressed as Katie was coming back with Nathan and Steph. We stopped by the liquor store (where some idiot decided to walk right next to the van as it was moving, and acted like we were dumb or something), then we went to Grandma and Grandpa's (where Brent was being a douche by coming up right behind us and leaving no room for the back doors to open, so Dad had to move ahead). I threatened to stay in the car, but Mom told me to behave myself.

It went somewhat well. Patti was being polite, Grandpa was being a child, and it seems that Jesse has developed a wicked sense of humor. And Patti's boyfriend Kevin's mother kept sticking her oar in - first, with my Christmas list, telling me to unfold it for Grandma, and then asking me if my name was on it. WHAT. THE. HELL. MAN. And then Patti asked me to put pickles into glass dishes, so I filled up the big dish first, and when I got to the smaller dishes I was finding a lot of picked cauliflower, so Kevin's mother was taking cauliflower out of the smaller ones and putting it in the bigger dish, saying something like, "We should have it all evened out." I was like, WTF? Was that necessary? If it was that important, Patti would've asked me to move some cauliflower to the bigger dish.

Dinner was hilarious. There were two tables set up in the living room - one big-ish table and one small card table - and the dining room/kitchen table was set. Grandma sat at the dining room/kitchen table, because it was easier for her wheelchair, and with her sat Katie, Grandpa, Patti, Kevin, Kevin's two kids and Kevin's mother. In the living room we had...

At the big table: Mom, Dad, Justin, Breanne, Uncle Brent and Becca.
At the small table: Me, Nathan, Steph and Jesse.

So you might say I was at the 'cool tables'. We kept cracking jokes that were slightly dirty, and another joke that went back a long ways, back when my mom's cousins were young. Two of these cousins - I think Mom said their names were Leanne and Shelly - would ask for mayonnaise or Miracle Whip to go with their turkey, because that's how they liked their turkey. Well, I guess Grandpa would complain about how they 'shouldn't be eating mayonnaise with their turkey' because 'warm turkey is meant to be eaten with stuffing and gravy, not mayonnaise!" So, Mom told Becca she'd pay her $5 to go ask Grandpa for mayonnaise or Miracle Whip to go with her turkey, but she wouldn't. Dad even offered her $10, but she wouldn't. So, Breanne took the dare, and got a laugh from Grandma (and I think a glare from Grandpa) and $5 from Mom. And when I bit into my leg of goose, I found a beebee! I guess Uncle Brent, who shot and cooked the goose, forgot to run a magnet by it! lol. The turkey wasn't too bad, considering that Patti cooked it.

Grandpa was being very childish. For instance, when I was dishing out the pickles, I had to set my can of Pepsi down. I left the room when Grandpa bitched at us to clear the kitchen, even though Patti had told us to stay still because she thought he was coming with Grandma in the wheelchair. So, I went back to get my can of Pepsi, only to find that it had mysteriously disappeared. So, I got another one from the cellar downstairs. Sometime either before or after dinner he made a public stink about 'someone being wasteful and leaving a half can of Pepsi lying around'. JERK.

Dessert was lovely, but Patti was skimping on the whipped cream as she dished out pumpkin pie, which pissed Mom off because Mom not only made the pie, but also brought the cream. There was leftover whipped cream, so Jesse came out with the bowl and asked if anybody wanted some, and I held my plate out and he plopped a spoonful on my plate and then ate the rest out of the bowl. 'Twas funny.

Monday - today

Today was the day of rest for me and my parents. Katie left at around 11:00 in the morning. When I was up on my computer, Mom suddenly yelled, "Sam! You wanna go see Zombieland?" So, we locked the dogs up and went to the movie theatre and saw Zombieland. It was EPIC. Seriously, it's funny. There's nothing quite like leftover pumpkin pie and zombies on Thanksgiving Day.

My hands smell like hand sanitizer.

...from the hospital. I went down to see Grandma, and I even washed my hands when we got home, but they still smell like the hand sanitizer. It's gross, but I can't stop sniffing them. Weeeiiirrdd.

So, my birthday present from Grandma and Grandpa was $25 and a September Happy Birthday CD of nature sounds and stuff. Grandpa said something about how he was going to get me a Chapters gift certificate, but it 'wasn't convenient'. Uhh, there's an Indigo location a half hour's drive away, and unless I'm mistaken, you clean the house, cook and eat, and garden most of the day. And I think he could even order a card online. But, he's kind of a luddite, so him ordering things online would be like my dad knitting (lol). I'm not sure what I'll spend the money on - yarn, a book, or a CD? Or maybe knitting needles? I do need DPNs...

Oh yeah, and Angel = hotness ;) Yup, I was watching Buffy yesterday. Might watch more tomorrow while Dad's at work. I have to watch U2 Live at Red Rocks as well.

edited to fix spelling

Crazy, but fun

The weekend was nuts, but in a good way. I'll do a recap, starting with Friday.

Friday

The night before, Katie called to tell us she and Dan was coming up for the weekend because their plans to go to a friend's cottage fell through. She was coming up on Saturday, which meant that Friday would be a cleaning day.

And then, while my parents were out getting groceries, Justin (my cousin) called to ask if he could crash here for the night because he had errands to run in Toronto the next day. Mom and Dad weren't home at the time, so he said he'd call back. After he called back twice, I said, "Why don't I get them to call you back?" and he agreed. So when they got home, Mom called him and said he could come over.

So I vacuumed the stairs, then went to the library with Dad to pick up my stuff, then me and Dad went to Shoppers Drug Mart to get pop because it was on sale. Justin came over, we had dinner, we watched TV (Bollywood Hero on Super Channel, and then we watched the movie right after it called The Night of the White Pants, which was a weird but funny movie. Not reccomended for under-sixteens unless you have permission, 'cause of the drug use in it.), and we went to bed.

Saturday

I set my alarm for 7 AM, because I wanted to be up early for when Michaels opened, because they had a coupon for 25% off your purchase between 9 AM and 11 AM, or something like that. Mom got beads and stuff to make stitch markers, and I got a skein of Red Heart Soft Yarn to make a wrap.

After we got home, Justin got his stuff together and Dad drove him to the bus station. Katie and Dan came sometime after noon. Dan gave me and Mom each a sandalwood bookmark, which was nice of him. I don't know if Dad got one. Mine had a Chinese proverb on it, and I think Mom's did, too.

We had burgers and grilled veggies for dinner, and then we played UpWords while Dad was playing poker with the neighbors. We weren't used to the rules of UpWords, so we kept putting in words that worked one way but didn't work the other way. For instance, Katie put down one word, but the word crossing it became 'fancs', so she had to take it down. It was pretty funny. Dan won the game.

Sunday

Katie and Dan went down to the beach at around lunchtime. I think I was reading Fruits Basket to pass the time until they came back. After they came back, me, Mom and Katie went down to the hospital to see Grandma. We went in Katie's rental car - a Nissan Versa, which was a very nice car. It's very roomy in the back. I sat behind Mom, and her seat was moved almost all the way back from when Dan was sitting in it, and I still had loads of room for my knees. I think even Dad would have enough room to sit in the back, and he's pretty tall.

Grandma was asleep when we got to her room - she had been to an anniversary party the day before, so she was pretty tired. Katie woke her up, and she was quite happy to see Katie. She was able to move her right leg a little, which is great.

We had pasta with meatballs for dinner (Mom and I got in an argument over what pasta to use) and watched America's Funniest Home Videos. Katie and Dan left at around 9:00.

I should probably go eat soon...

I'm appalled...

...at how long my house tie is getting. I worked on it a bit earlier - I think I did two sets of stripes. I'm close to running out of blue acrylic, so I may have to run out to Michaels to get a skein of Patons Canadiana. Damn, I wish we had a Michaels within walking distance!

Smiles was chasing the sprinkler today, which was funny. Dad set up the sprinkler to water the garden, and Smiles is crazy about water. I wonder if it's a Jack Russell Terrier thing, because none of the other dogs are this crazy about sprinklers. Or hoses. God, if you so much as rinse out a compost bin with a hose, Smiles won't leave you alone unless you spray her with the hose. It's hilarious.

So, I might start either an Irish Hiking Scarf, or the Mom's Sophisticated Scarf from Stitch N' Bitch Nation, for Muggle Studies. I really want to start another scarf. As much as I like knitting my house tie, it's a bit of a pain to change colours to do the stripes. The house tie's looking cute, though.

I'm not sure if there's gonna be a youth group meeting on Wednesday, because Stephen's in India for work, and last week was cancelled due to Stephen's absence and Canada Day. We were thinking of having the meeting on Tuesday or Thursday, but I guess Jeff was busy. As for my plans tomorrow, I'll probably go to church (we haven't been in a couple of weeks) and go see Grandma.

Getting back into the swing of things.

Hey, sorry I haven't posted in a while. There's not much to recap, actually - I went out for dinner with Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa on Wednesday, and skipped youth group. I want to go to youth group tomorrow, though, because I haven't been going for... three, four weeks?

Oh, and I signed up for the HP Knitting and Crochet House Cup on Ravelry, which should be fun. I hope I get sorted into Ravenclaw :)

So Monday (yesterday) I started doing schoolwork again after my very extended break (eep!). Started with biology, then writing, then reading, then lunch. After that, it was world history, then math. Then a bit of music, I think, but not much. We've got this Usbourne piano classics book that I've been trying to use, but I can't read the chords. There are these numbers above some parts of the pieces, but... do they stand for chords?! So I've been trying to 'sound out' the chords, just playing a chord that has the right key in it... and hoping for the best.

My darling Ma thinks that I need to get into a rhythm with my schoolwork. I haven't been letting on that I have a rhythm sorted out, though. Maybe I'll write it out on the whiteboard so that she can see that I'm trying to keep my education organised...

So, for math, I'm still doing polynomials. For biology, I'm using my anatomy colouring book (yeah, I said 'colouring book'), since Human 3D will not work. For 'Lit' I'm just reading the sixth Harry Potter book (I want to finish it in time for when the movie comes out), writing has been working on my Harry Potter fanfiction (which is almost complete), and for world history I've been reading through that WWII book, which is interesting. I learned last week (I didn't do much work last week, but I did read a few pages of the WWII book) that the economy was so bad in Germany back then that housewives used their paper money for their stoves, because the paper money was worthless.

Math has been treating me good today. I've learned the Zero Product Rule, which I friggin' love. It's fairly simple to understand. The only problem is that some of the polynomials on which I have to use the Zero Product Rule only have two expressions, so I don't know how to factor them, thus I don't know how to use the ZPR on them. I might have to ask my mom to look up the page in the answer key, so that I know what do to with them.

Oh yeah. I woke up rather early. It must've been really early, because my dad was up, and he gets up early. He and my mom were bickering over an open window. At first I thought, oh my god, did the cat get out? But then I think I heard the tag and bells on her collar jingling. The kitty's fine. My mother, on the other hand, keeps making references to the argument by saying that 'I was called a liar this morning'. Ha! Big deal! I'm called a 'miserable child' daily, because my !@#$ing irritating father thinks I'm miserable all the time. Is it because I make bitter remarks? Or because I don't smile as much as he'd like?

I know I've been a bitch lately, but it's mainly because of: stress + not having a contract at the dojo anymore = anger and bitterness.

Ah, life... it's a bitch.

Boo!

It snowed.

At least it's partially melted now, but I didn't get to walk to the library. Oh well. I renewed my DVDs, so I only have one item that's due back soon - the David Bowie CD I'm borrowing. I have two CDs to pick up (Pink Floyd's The Final Cut and David Gilmour's Live in Gdansk album), and a book on Pete Townshend. And I have a CD in transit - Coldplay's Prospekt's March EP, which should be pretty neat.

Hmm, what else is going on? I'm probably going to youth group tomorrow - wait, maybe not. My dad's working different shifts this week, so he might be working tomorrow night. I'll have to ask him. Katie and Dan are coming up this weekend (Easter weekend!!!!!), so that should be cool. I don't know if I'll see Nathan over Easter, and I don't care much anyway. I'll probably see Breanne, and maybe Justin, because we're supposed to be having Easter Sunday dinner in this room at the hospital that Grandpa rented or something so that we could have dinner with Grandma. Should be interesting...

Oh, and I have to post this...

But it's even funnier in Spanish:

"I'm happy, hope you're happy, too..."

Yes, I'm on a David Bowie kick. But I truly am happy. Sort of.

I'm happy because Grandma's back at the hospital she was in before. I'm also happy that I got to see my sister, and that we had Indian food for dinner the night before last, and that we watch An Evening with Kevin Smith. Because he's awesome and Jason Mewes is gorgeous.

However, Grandpa was being an ass the day before last.

I've been thinking about getting a job. Only problem is, where? I'm thinking the Coles in the mall, or the Wal-Mart near my house. Maybe the Tim Horton's by my house, which is only about a ten to fifteen minute walk.

That, and I feel like making a musical instrument. Specifically, a drum. I think I got that idea from watching a 'visit Ireland' ad on TV, and in one of those ads there's a guy beating a small drum with a kind of double-ended stick. I'm probably making no sense right now :p

Also, I got to hear 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' by U2 in church this morning, which made it worth going to church. I think I'll sign up for one of the upcoming Music Sundays. I don't know what I'll sing, though. Or maybe I'll make a drum like the one in the 'visit Ireland' commercial and just beat the drum.

Maybe the idea of making a drum came from someone in church playing these drums this morning...

Anyways, the two DVDs, My Neighbor Totoro and the third InuYasha movie, are at the library for me to pick up on Tuesday. Sweet. I also have a book on the second World War to pick up, and French Girl Knits is in transit. Sweet :)

So yeah. I want to make a drum.

I should be doing schoolwork

...But instead I'm on Blogger. I'm really weirded out, still. And my eating habits aren't as Hobbit-like as before - I'm not eating as much. In fact, I don't think I ate anything for breakfast, but I had a glass of juice. And I don't think I woke up until 10-ish. I'm starting to feel hungry, though, which is a plus.

So, last night I reserved My Neighbor Totoro and the second InuYasha movie. The InuYasha movie is in transit now, and I probably won't have to wait too long for Totoro either.

In addition to my weird eating habits, I've been really tired, too. Some days I feel like going back to bed and not coming out until dinnertime. I don't know if I'm going to youth group tonight, because Mom and Dad might visit Grandma tonight. Part of me wants to go to youth group, because I'd be getting out of the house, but another part of me feels like staying home and watching movies.

That's all I've felt like doing lately - watching movies. That, and reading, writing and knitting. I haven't done math for two days straight, partly because of headaches.

I did go to the library yesterday, though. Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders is pretty good, although I'm not entirely sure what to knit from it. Maybe the 'Berry Jewellery Bag' thing. But that requires reading a lace chart. eep.

I should probably go eat now.

Headache, go away :(

I should be doing biology, but I don't feel like staring at the texts in the biology program right now. At least my headache is starting to fade, 'cause it was a real pain a few minutes ago.

Stress, stress, stress. Mainly to do with my grandmother's health, although I won't go into detail 'cause I don't think certain relatives want me plastering the details on the internet. But it's really tiring me and Mom out.

Because I needed a brainless knitting project, I started a plain stockinette scarf out of my off-white Lion Brand Fun Fur Solid. It looks really neat, like a piece of wolf fur. I was working on it while watching Princess Mononoke, so I named the project San, who is the 'wolf girl' in the movie. I love that movie...

So, I'm on an anime kick. Not just Princess Mononoke, but also InuYasha, which I've been watching on YouTube. I think I'm going to reserve some more Hayao Miyazaki films from the library, because I need something to keep my mind off Grandma, and something to do while Mom and Dad are visiting her. In a nutshell, Grandma is limited as to how many visitors she can have, and if I'm there, we'd be pushing our luck. And because I'm not sure how to work the VCR part of the VCR/DVD player with the new TV, I can't watch Tokyo Godfathers, which is on a VHS tape. Damn. I might reserve My Neighbor Totoro, which I still haven't seen. And maybe some feel-good-ish movies like Grease (which I haven't seen in years), or those popular teenage movies that I never saw like The Breakfast Club. I have seen part of Pretty in Pink, however, and a teeny, miniscule bit of Sixteen Candles.

Phew.

I didn't do any math yesterday, mainly because of stress and wanting to throw my sketchbook against the wall. Note to self: never work on manga drawing when you're stressed out.

I hope this counts as 'school work'...

Maybe I'll borrow the third and fourth InuYasha movies from the library, too.

I have to go to the library, actually, to pick up Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders, a Robert Plant CD, and a few other items. I don't think I have any DVDs to pick up, though...

Haven't posted it a bit...

So yesterday was... well, it started out good. Uncle Brent came over for lunch because he and Mom had a family meeting to go to regarding Grandma's health. So we ate sandwiches and watched Rosanne - I had a ham and cheese sandwich, Mom and Uncle Brent had egg salad sandwiches (so that they could fart during the meeting... haha).

It was when Mom got back that the day started going not-so-good. Grandpa is pretty much refusing to believe that the stroke was as harsh as it was.

Youth group was terrible. Everyone kept talking all at once and I forgot to do a check-in or to propose a summer youth service. So now I'll have to e-mail the idea to Stephen. Long story short, I walked out of the loft and sat on the bench for a little while. I tried to give them a second chance, though. I did walk back into the loft. But most of the younger members kept being immature, so I walked out again and waited until Dad came to pick me up. I should have just called him and asked him to come early, but I didn't want to disturb him. Next time, I will call.

Today I woke up twice. The first time I woke up, Smiles was running around my room like a lunatic and then jumped up on my bed. I fell asleep again, and woke up a second time, at around 9-ish or 10-ish. Probably 10-ish, because when I eventually dragged my ass outta bed it was around 11:00.

Didn't do math today, but I did some yesterday while Mom and Uncle Brent were at the meeting. I also finished watching the entire DVD set of Are You Being Served?. I was going to go to the library today, but I might have to go tomorrow...

This sucks.

Because Mom doesn't want to watch the Grammys, she put it on Sky High, which I'm pretty sure she's seen before. I know I've seen it at least once.

Anyways.

We visited Grandma yesterday, and she looks better than she had the last time I saw her. She smiled for Mom, and Mom says that her smile has improved. Grandma asked how my mouth was feeling, which was sweet of her. We saw Brian and Maryanne (Mary-Anne? Maryann? Mary-Ann?) - I think Brian is one of Mom's cousins. He said he hadn't seen me since I was much shorter :p

Church was good today. The service was Black History Month themed. Our guest speaker, Rev. Horton, was teaching the kids to play 'Telephone' - he was explaining how rumors get twisted around until they turn out to be different from how they originally started out, often becoming unkind rumors, like how people told rumors about Martin Luther King Jr. So Rev. Horton was asking the kids what their names were, and one girl said that her name was Reese (Reis? Not sure how it's spelled). He misheard her, so he had her repeat herself, and one of the boys said, "Reese - like Reese's Pieces!" Those kids crack me up.

The sermon was good, although I wasn't paying as much attention as I should have. He was a bit difficult to listen to, though, because he pauses a bit as he speaks. What was funny was how Beverly (the service leader for this morning) put a note at the pulpit telling him to wrap up the sermon, and he said, "I'm being reminded of the time." I guess he's been known to talk longer than he's supposed to.

I think we're going to visit Grandma again tomorrow. In that case, I should probably do more laundry.

Hiya!

I haven't posted it a little while :p

Mom and Dad went to see Grandma on Friday, and I stayed home. Dad says she still thinks that I had a birthday recently. We ordered pasta from a local restaurant for dinner. Om nom nom.

Katie came up Saturday. She and Mom went to see Grandma again, and I stayed home again. After Dad dropped them off, he came home and went on the computer, and I played final Fantasy VIII for a while. In fact, I played so long that I got a headache, and you wouldn't believe how long it took me to find a friggin' save point. Grah.

(What I don't get is why Mom and Katie had Dad drop them off when Katie was renting a car, but...)

Mom was so pissed off at Dad when she and Katie came home (they got a ride from Grandpa), because he hadn't made any dinner, so we ordered chicken wings. I got pissed off, too, because I assumed (stupidly) that I was also being blamed for the lack of dinner. Long story short, I ate some honey garlic wings and some onion rings.

I wonder if Dad ate the rest of the honey garlic wings. Mom told me to leave them for him, but I'm hungry now, and I'm not sure if he ate them.

Today was a rather good day. I woke up quite early - either 6:00 or 7:00. There wasn't much on TV at that hour, so Mom and I watched The Lab with Leo, which was interesting. I had a shower at around 8:00, and after I sorted some clothes out (the top I got from Grandma and Grandpa for Christmas and my tigher-fitting jeans), myself, Mom and Katie went to IKEA.

The original IKEA plan was to get some of the juggling balls for Grandma to help with her reflexes, look at a reading lamp for me, and I think Katie wanted some kitchen stuff. We couldn't find any of the juggling balls, and I didn't get a reading lamp because there's 'nothing wrong with the one Dad has' (fine, then, he can set it up in my room). I did, however, get cardboard magazine files for my knitting magazines and patterns. Sweet! Katie got some shelves for her and Dan's CDs and DVDs, some tea towels, and a casserole dish. There were probably more items, but I can't remember them all.

What I found really funny was, in the self-serve area for furniture, there are signs that read 'medium-brown starts here', 'beech starts here', etc. I didn't notice them until Mom started reading them aloud.

The new items got added to the library catalog tonight :) So I went through the CDs first and reserved a Dire Straits compilation and Bruce Springsteen's new album 'Working on a Dream'. I could only reserve four items, unfortunately - the other two items I reserved were French Girl Knits and Luxury One-Skein Wonders. I put other books on my list, like a Nicky Epstein book.

Last, but not least - the Super Bowl halftime show. Bruce Springsteen kicked ass out there! Our next-door neighbor's daughter came by to drop off some knitting needles that she borrowed from my mom, and then she asked to come by again and to have my mom help her cast on. I myself was working on Grandma's Clapotis while watching the halftime show, which distracted me from the performance, so I may have missed bits of it.

That's all for now!

So I slept in again...

Yup, I slept in 'til quarter after 12:00.

Anyways. Here's what went on over the weekend.

Friday

Katie came over. She and Mom went to see Grandma in the hospital. I meanwhile stayed home - I think I worked on my cotton shawl. I think I'll bind off when I've used up the rest of the skein - I have more of that cotton, but I think I'll use it for something else. I was kinda ticked, because I'm pretty sure Mom said I could visit Grandma on Friday, but it didn't turn out that way.

We ordered Chinese take-out when Dad came back from picking Katie and Mom up from the hospital. When Dad picked up the Chinese food and people started loading up plates, I waited patiently in the living room until 'the horde' was done getting food. That's when all hell broke loose.

Dad: "Sam, do you want a plate or a trough (meaning a wide, shallow bowl from IKEA)?"

Me: "I'll wait until you guys are done getting food."

And then he started yelling at me about whether I wanted a plate or a 'trough', and I kept replying that I'd wait. It got to the point that he came out with a 'trough', and asked me again which I wanted, so I grabbed the 'trough' from him and yelled something like, "Fine! I'll take the bowl and wait out here!" Sometime in the whole argument he told me to give him the bowl and go to my room. I gave him the bowl and stayed where I was. I think he stormed into the kitchen, and Katie came out and did her whole stupid 'chill out' BS, and I shoved past her and went on my computer until Mom called me down to eat some dinner. She told me that Dad was acting like a spoiled brat. She was right - he was sitting at his computer, practically pouting, and when I was eating and Mom told him to get some food, he was all, "Oh, I'm allowed in there now?"

Saturday

Katie and Mom went to see Grandma again. I told Katie about how I was pissed off about me having to stay home, and she told me that Mom wasn't making me stay home. So I asked Mom if I was staying home, and she said "Sure", or something to that effect. Katie told her that I'd wanted to come, but in hte end, I decided to stay home, because Mom said that Patti was probaby going to be there - if I had gone, I probably would've slugged Patti's nasty face, since she had the nerve to not call Mom when she was supposed to.

Sunday (yesterday)

After going to church, going to Fortino's and going home to eat lunch, we went down to the hospital to see Grandma. I had looked at some photos of Grandma when we were in church, so I kinda knew what to expect.

She looked... tired. I think she liked the potted plant we gave her (call it a superstition, but I was kinda wary of giving her a potted plant, in case it would be bad luck - 'rooted in hospital'). She got a little confused and wished me a happy birthday - I think she meant to wish Breanne (who wasn't there) a happy birthday, because Breanne's a January baby. She wanted to see my healing mouth, so I tipped my head back and opened my mouth for her to look, and later she asked if my mouth was sore. It was so sweet of her. There were two other people other than Grandpa in the room - I later found out that they were Colleen and... Nick? I think? I'm not sure if they're extended family or close friends. I think I last saw Colleen at Patti's fortieth birthday party a while back. Or maybe it was another Colleen.

So anyways. Grandpa wheeled her out and around for a bit. We chatted about food (Grandma said that she didn't like the hospital chili, because it was too spicy). Mom said she might make a nice, easy-to-swallow soup for Grandma, like the carrot and ginger soup Mom makes, with about half the ginger so that it isn't too strong. Grandpa massaged Grandma. A couple of nurses helped her into bed. We chatted some more about food. Grandma tried to make a phone call, but I don't think she got through to the person she was calling. Then we left. We had Swiss Chalet take-out chicken for dinner.

Mom says we might visit her again on Wednesday. We told Stephen about our current situation with Grandma and my healing mouth, so he probably won't mind if I skip youth group. Actually, I don't think I'll be going back to youth group until the stitches in my mouth are taken out, as a safety measure, since Stone is so keen on throwing crap at me.

I slept in until, as I mentioned earlier, 12:15. I must've been tired. One thing I still haven't done is try reinstalling Human 3D. Maybe tomorrow.

So, I'm finished taking medication for my mouth! Yay! Now I don't have to get up at 8 to take medication :) I do still have to use an antiseptic rinse to clean the area, which is a bit gross, considering I have to wait half an hour to rinse with water after using the rinse, which seems to generate a lot of spit. Eww.

Mom made ham and bean soup, and pureed it. Hopefully it'll be smooth enough for Grandma to eat. It's tasty.

My cat was jumping up on my desk, CPU and monitor a lot this afternoon. Weird. I know she likes being in the highest point of the room, but come on!

Letterman's on tonight! Yay!

Thursday, January 22, 2009

Another semi-productive day.

I didn't do any algebra, but I did work on my shawl, and I started the Clapotis for Grandma. I didn't read today, really - I might've tried reading a bit of The Complete Idiot's Guide to World Mythology, but I can't remember.

While I was knitting, I was watching TV. I watched The Ellen Degeneres Show at 10:00 after Maury. Then I watched The View at 11:00, then the 12:00 news, then Rosanne at 12:30, then an old episode of Gilmore Girls at 1:00. I think I started the day's knitting at 1:00. Then I put on Galaxie GoldRock, but it was boring me, so I put in season one of Black Books and continued knitting. And eating.

Speaking of eating, I ate a sandwich. Two, actually. Mom had brought up some buns that are like miniature sub buns, so I sliced one and put smoked salmon cream cheese on it and ate it by tearing chunks off and chewing. Yay! The second was one with processed cheese slices.

I think I started the Clapotis this afternoon, while I watched Black Books. So far it's going good. I like the feel of the yarn - it kinds feels like cotton, but.... stretchy.

So, I'm not even sure if I'm visiting Grandma tomorrow, because when Mom and Dad were talking about going down to the hospital tomorrow, she said something about picking her and Katie up at the hospital when they were finished visiting. Or something like that. She didn't mention me at all. I'm kinda ticked, because I feel I should visit her. Now, I'm prepared for it. I know her face may look different from the stroke. I know she might be a bit gloomy. But I think I can handle it.

I finally got to the library today. It turns out that I returned that U2 CD just in the nick of time, because I didn't have to pay a fine for it. Sweet! I picked up...

The Encyclopedia of Punk
Whole Lotta Led Zeppelin
David Gilmour: About Face (a CD)
A knitting book called Color Style
A teen book called Drop. It's about these teenagers who get involved in gambling. Looks interesting.
