Michaels Sale of Awesomeness!

Yesterday, I went to the Michaels sale I'd mentioned in my last post. It was 20% off your entire purchase, including sale items; but not including things like books, magazines, Christmas trees over a certain height, etc. And I got yarn!

I wound up getting up before my alarm. Somehow, I tend to do that; probably because I'm anticipating the alarm. I had set it for 7:00 and got up at around 6:15, so I had plenty of time to eat and get dressed. I had to get up early because the sale was only from 9:00 until noon (I think), and Mom wanted to get there early so that she could get the yarn she needed.

After helping Mom pick out some colours, I started looking for yarn for the patterns I'd brought with me - Ysolda Teague's Lace-Up Opera Gloves, and Jenny Dolan's Punk Rock Corset Gloves. I wasn't sure what colour to get for the opera gloves, so I picked two colours for the corset gloves instead - Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in 'Cranberry', and Loops & Threads Impeccable in 'True Gray' (I think that's the colourway!). I thought about making the gloves in black and another colour like red, but then I realized that black yarn can be tricky to work with, so I didn't want to plunge into applied i-cord using black yarn. I liked the idea of red and grey, so I went with that. I think they're gonna look great :D I'll still make the opera gloves, but I might use some worsted that I already had before going to Michaels.

I felt really tired that afternoon, probably because I was up so early; so I rested for a bit on the sofa, watching/listening to Robin Williams' HBO special (which, I should warn you, is R-rated). After that, I think we watched the news, and then the Tina Fey Mark Twain Prize special on PBS (which was really great).

That's pretty much it. I'm starting to love my novel for NaNoWriMo, but I feel like it isn't moving quick enough. But I'm excited to write tomorrow, because I have a really good scene in my head that I want to write :D

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. In a quick recap of last week, I went to the LYS's tent sale and got five skeins of Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in a medium blue, two skeins of Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino in Lilac, and the only skein I could find of S.R. Kertzer On Your Toes DK in... Mauve Meadow? I think???

Anyways. Today my cousin Justin came up. He's dog-sitting for us tomorrow while we're at my sister's university graduation, and he's coming to dinner with us in the evening. I think my mom said he's staying tomorrow night, too.

So today I got my hair cut. I got an angled bob, which looks neat. I plan on pinning the front sections back with my bluey hair clips. I might also experiment with my bobbley hair elastics. I told my mom after I got out of the chair that I have Sailor Mercury hair, lol.

After my haircut, we went to Giant Tiger, where I got some new PJs (they didn't have a blue set in my size :( ). We got some Cadbury chocolate biscuits, too, and some other stuff. And then we went to Toys R Us to get my sister a 'new car' - a toy car. Justin got some cute Hello Kitty cards and a puzzle for Grandma, and I decided to get some replacement Monopoly money for Katie's grad present ;) We also went to Denningers to get lunchmeat.

We had perogies for dinner (boughten from Denningers), and I tidied the spare bed for Justin (can't remember if this was before or after dinner). I also got some knitting done while me and Justin were watching TV - I worked on my house tie, because I don't have a size 8 circular to make the bobble pillow for Herbology. I have a size 9 one, though. Maybe I'll swatch with that this week.

I also packed my purse for the travel, because we're getting up at 5:30 and hoping to hit the rode around 6:00 or 6:15 - her grad is pretty early, and they're being strict on when they're going to stop letting people in. I have packed:

A Zip-Loc bag with my hair clips, a comb and a small mirror in it.
Two books (Blood and Chocolate and Tris's Book).
My emergency feminine hygiene products wallet.
A pack of gum.

I might also include a couple of tissues and maybe some hand lotion. My hands get pretty dry. I would bring knitting, but given that I'll be in pretty close quarters, I don't think that would be possible, even if it is on a circular needle.

GRAH!!!

Okay, so I have good news and bad news.

I'll start with the bad news.

1. The car didn't pass the Drive Clean test, so it's at the garage, probably to get thigns fixed so that it'll pass the test next time. This royally sucks because I wanted to get to the library, and if I walk down, I might have difficulty walking back because I don't know how heavy the books waiting for me to pick up are.

2. I have a sore throat.

3. A few days ago - I think it was Friday - the red colour in our TV went out. Now everything is blues and greens. It's not too bad now, because Mom tinkered with the colour so that it's closer to black-and-white.

4. I accidentally scraped my heel/Achille's Tendon on my computer chair last night.

And now, the Good News!

1. It's a beautiful day today. The snow is melting! I don't have to wear my ski jacket! I CAN SEE GRASS!!!!!! :D

2. Michaels has another sale on. 50% off Moda Dea Tweedle Dee!

3. I have a bunch of stuff to pick up from the library.

4. I finally finished my hood!!! I made the ties!!!

5. I'm in a real destashing and finishing mood (see above). I might seam the shoulders of my vest tonight, since it's three-needle bind-off. Easy-peasy. I also plan on using my off-white Fun Fur to make a long, skinny scarf.

6. I've narrowed down my Ravelry queue to almost two pages. I'm going to narrow it down some more, in fact.

So, here's a recap.

Friday

We went out to Michaels, thinking that their sale had already started. Turns out it didn't start until today (Saturday), so I got scolded for not reading the flyer properly, and then Mom made it sound like she wasn't going to let me go back the next sale for when the sale started, like some form of punishment. I freaked out in the store, and embarassed Mom. I also tried to refuse a coupon from someone, and Mom later told me off for 'being rude'.

I wound up getting two skeins of Phentex Worsted in a pretty yellow-green colourway. It literally looks like budgie feathers. I'm going to use that to make Grandma a Clapotis.

After that, we went to PetSmart to get breath-freshening dog treats (while walking the short distance to PetSmart, Mom told me off once more for my 'defeatist attitude'). We got these treats called Blue Chews for the dogs, and while we waited in line, Mom told me that the reason why I forgot to check the Michaels flyer was because I'm under stress, and that it was 'all right'. Huh.

When we got home, Mom checked the answering machine, and there was a message from Grandpa saying that Grandma's coming back here Monday. From what I've heard, they're taking her to a hospital downtown.

Saturday

I'm in bed, and Mom asks me if I want oatmeal. I say no. Then a few minutes later, she tells me that she's printing off a Michaels coupon. Then, she asks me if I'm dressed and if I've eaten, because we're going to Michaels in, like, 15 minutes!!! I needed a shower, too, but I didn't have enough time, so I had to have a very rushed wash. Meanwhile, I was screaming at my mother, who told me to act my age or she'd leave me at home.

SHE DIDN'T EVEN TELL ME THAT WE WERE GOING RIGHT AWAY!!!!! I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT WE WOULDN'T GO UNTIL THAT AFTERNOON!!!! IF SHE'D TOLD ME THAT WE WERE GOING, I WOULD HAVE HAD A SHOWER RIGHT AWAY!!!!!

I feel better now. Almost.

So I got six skeins of Patons Decor in a pretty blue. While I was looking at the Decor, Mom asked me how much yarn I needed for the Mrs. Darcy cardigan, and I told her that I was going to use my green superwash for that. So she told me in a snarky tone, "Do you want your sweater to be Christmas green?"

I can't believe her sometimes.

We went to Giant Tiger next, where my mother actually bought these Texas Toast things. She never buys that kind of thing - jalapeno pepper poppers, yes. Pop Tarts, sometimes. But never something like frozen Texas Toast things. She also got her favourite chips while Dad kinda wandered off, and she told me to go with him and wait for her while she got them. I told Dad that she was getting her chips, and he got ticked that she wasn't getting his chips. And when he told her that much, she got pissed off. Long story short, he got a bag of barbecue, a bag of salt and vinegar and a bag of plain. Halle-frickin'-lujah.

Then it was off to Metro to buy more groceries, and where Mom got pissed off again. Grocery shopping with her can be so fun.

When we got home, I ate a sandwich, then I dried dishes for Dad while we complained about Mom. You know, some days I'm mad at my dad and complain about him with my mom, other days it's vice versa. This was one of the vice versa days.

I get the metal post for my tooth put in on Monday. Whoo-hoo. I hope Dr. G has me hopped up on plenty of drugs.

Pretty awesome, eh? I got five of the blue Rowanspun, four of the grey Rowanspun, one of the blue Circus, two of the black Circus, and eight of the orange Event. I got more yarn, but I can't fit any more photos in this post, and some of the yarn photos I took didn't turn out well, so I'll take new ones and put them and the ones that wouldn't fit here in a new post.

ETA: Unfortunately, I did not win those Rush tickets. Shame.
