In which my stomach grumbles and I begin to hate my computer speakers

I'm having a bit of a set-to with my speakers.

From what my brother said, they were hooked up to my computer without a certain cord, so instead of sounding like decent speakers (which they are), they sound like crappy headphones. I may disconnect them and use my headphones when writing this year's novel draft for National Novel Writing Month, because while I was listening to a variety of music (from rock, to alternative rock, to opera, to video game music, to j-pop, to Edith Piaf. Yes, I'm very serious.), my speakers sounded like static-y crap.

Also, I haven't eaten lunch, so my stomach is a grumbly, painful mess at the moment.

I forgot to mention in my last post that I now have a new PS2 controller. My parents ordered me a wireless one for me for my birthday, and IT GLOWS. I'm serious, people, it has lights and a weird liquid thing that glows bright-ass blue. I can turn the lights off if I want, which is good because it conserves battery life that way (and the lights may be distracting for me depending on which game I'm playing), but it's quite awesome. And the wireless-ness is very helpful with our pets, as they aren't tripping over the cord - or sitting on the cord, as Smiles the Jack Russell likes to do sometimes. She's a strange thing.

Well, I should close now, because I really need to eat something.

A good end to a 'meh' weekend

Today I saw Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. It was great. It was in 3D, so we got the 3D glasses. Unlike the cardboard ones, these ones are plastic, and they look like the sunglasses worn by John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd in The Blues Brothers. We were asked to put them in the glasses recycling box on the way out, but we took ours home ;)

Mom and I were going to go to the local roller derby match last night, but we wound up not going. Damn. Maybe we'll go to their next home game. And maybe I'll bring knitting ;)

Oh yeah - I'm using Dad's old speakers now, because my old Koss ones are pretty much toast. The left one's blown out, and Dad says the wires are all broken up. These speakers are a bit tinny, and they're very quiet, but they work, which is always good :)

Speakers and Shorts

Today has been good and not so good.

Me and my parents went out for breakfast, then we went to the British imports shop, where I got some Munchies and a peppermint chocolate bar that I can't remember the name of. I resisted the urge to beg my parents to buy me a Beatles t-shirt ;) We got other stuff, too, like Mom's favourite tea, and some biscuits, and some crisps.

After that we went to Indigo to look for that book about Mary Shelley. I think I've found the title and author (!), but the book isn't in, and I don't want to order it up until I'm certain that it's the one I had seen before. Maybe I'll put in a purchase request for it on the library's website... Anyways, I did get a discounted book called Crystal Doors, which I'd heard was a good book. The regular price is $21.99 Canadian, and it was on sale for $5.99! :D

Then me and Dad went into PetSmart to buy dog food, cat food and cat litter. Turns out the cat food we get is in new packaging. Weird. Even weirder is that the dog food of the same brand is in the same style bag as the old cat food bags. But we get a different brand of dog food. In fact, we get PetSmart's own brand of dog food.

We went home, and then me and Dad went out again because I wanted to look at shorts and Mom wanted us to go to the library to pick up a DVD she reserved. So we went to a local mall, which is smaller than the other local malls. Unfortunately, they're renovating it and all of the small businesses will have to relocate. I hate it when people force out the small businesses - especially when some of the local shopping districts are becoming more commercial! It really annoys me how big businesses get to squash the smaller ones. And there's some nice small businesses in this mall, like the Dutch imports shop. I love that place - they carry some of the best chocolate. And now they might have to move.

On the upside, I found some shorts that weren't super-short. I got two pairs of belted shorts (one brown, one green) and two pairs of shorts with a stretchy elastic waist (one beige, one light green). I hope they fit after they're washed and dried - the stretchy-waist ones are in the dryer now.

Then we went to the library, where some UFI (Unidentified Flying Insect) flew into me as I got out of the car, and I freaked out. After I recovered we went in to pick up me and Mom's stuff. I noticed that a self-checkout is being set up in the library, which makes me worry a little about whether or not they'll be hiring now. I mean, of course they'll need people to do paperwork, stock shelves, etc, but it still worries me a little. After another UFI siege (which turned out to be something like a flying ant - not sure if it was the same bug as when I got out of the car, though), we went home.

And now my speakers won't work. I was trying to listen to a live video of Stevie Nicks singing 'Gold Dust Woman', and I noticed that I wasn't getting sound out of the right speaker, so I wiggled the speaker plugs, like I normally do, and both speakers cut out. DAMN! Now I might have to steal Dad's old speakers, if he's willing to part with them...

Silly speakers...

My speakers seem to be possessed. Seriously. They cut in and out. Well, they are old speakers - they're from our old 386, which I think was our first computer. Then the computer along with the speakers because my brother's, then he traded the speakers with my sister in return for a Walkman. My sister used the speakers for a while - she used to plug them into her discman. Then they sat in the laundry room for a few years. They can go really loud, but I'm trying to take it easy on them since they're so old. Maybe I'll ask for new speakers for Christmas. Or a printer.

So far my files have stopped disappearing, which is a good thing, but I'm still gonna work on my story in Google Docs. I wrote another draft for my story, but it took me a bit of time to get it to look okay. I wrote the original draft on paper early this morning while listening to the replaying of the Legends of Classic Rock program on Pink Floyd, parts one and two. I wonder if they're playing parts three and four tonight...

I think I'll turn off my computer and see what mom and dad are watching on the telly.
